Some random pictures from around the place in the lovely spring sunshine

A first flowering of this Pink Wisteria, its really a stock plant as I prefer the good old plain wisteria blue but its always a bit exciting when stuff flowers for the first time!

One of the old victorian tea roses, this has to be under glass as the flowers spoil in the wet, I believe it was popular for button holes, Liz just likes the smell, which I find not so exciting! but it is way different to other roses

Same problem as normal with the Paulownia - you cant see the flowers against a blue sky, I did however notice while up the scaffolding yesterday its a much better view!

Ponds looking great this year and so far no visit from the heron so we have both thousands of tadpoles and fish

The scent from all the Holboellia has been exceptional this year with the warm sunny weather, although some of the tops got caught by frost, (no bad thing as I normally have to hack them back anyway!)

I was sold this over 30 years ago by Irene Chapman (Late of Lanterns - Mylor) she assured me it wouldnt seed about - she lied! but it is very easy to remove

Recently had "Eskimo Day" and managed to evict all the overwintering plants, hope now I can see the floor again in the conservatory to go back to doing the tiling

Charlie, I do like your Justicia, I bought 2 last year from the Malvern Spring Fair they are only small but covered in flower at the moment, a nice colourful start to the year. Do you protect them in the winter? I overwintered mine in the green house but kept the doors ajar during the day. :)

Justicia rizzinii; that was me.

It lives in the unheated poly tunnel and has taken -5C there briefly.

In the tunnel things seem to be hardier to winter minimum than their 'book' value; I think 'shelter' and a following warm day make a huge difference. They are also a lot drier in there than outside through the winter.

Chad I agree with what you said regarding polytunnels The label on mine says hardy to -3C.

Beginning of May, and we are really enjoying the lack of wind (most of the time!) as is the garden

First flowering for this west coast of the USA Honeysuckle, grew it from seed.

Had been a bit underwhelmed when this first flowered but its growing on me, the scent is lovely and growth a lot less rampant than its brothers and sisters
