Planter ideas

Post by Chrisg »

You don't have to search too far to find some weird ideas for planters. Found this the other day. Given the interest in cycling here, you can now take your plants with you.

So have you go or seen any unusual planters?

Do you think these are bright enough?

I've made them out of metal filing cabinets mostly obtained via my local 'freecycle' . The drawers and runners are discarded and holes drilled in the back before painting. I work as a volunteer at a MENCAP 'Growing4All' project and was asked to create part of a garden used by the clients for therapy and work experience through horticulture. The cabinets are just the right height for working at, even for the wheelchair users.
I'm expecting 4 tons of soil to be delivered next week and then the difficult task of finding plants that will be noticeable amongst all that colour. I think I will have to rely mostly on good foliage.

The're a bit bright for my garden but brilliantly appropiate for the project you are working on - should look great when you have them planted up - really fun.

The 'Filing Cabinet' garden has matured somewhat and is looking quite good. Some of the plants grow better in the cabinets than I can grow them at home, particularly the Colocassia fontanesii

The last picture is of a cabinet that I've filled with succulents and alpines I was given. The succulents have really made it home.

Wow Andy those look stunning. Love the way you have a jungle area and then a succulent section. The succulents are looking very happy, good to see some flowering ones mixed in as well. Slightly more soil than they need
