Aloe saponaria

Post by Andrew in Germany »

While not the most outlandish of aloes, or the most hardy, still I’ve grown this in a pot or4 for many years. It has always flowered profusely in the spring when given enough pot room and winter in the greenhouse. But then I got tired of schlepping them into the greenhouse taking up valuable space and so kept one large pot. But for the last few years it’s been so crowded in its pot that it (they) didn’t grow or flower, just sat there. This year I’ve gone and done it …again… took it apart and made 8 pots of the thing. Through a few kilos into the compost too.
So what to do with so many I’ve asked myself. Soap aloe in many circles, can be eaten with skin. Aloe vera can as well but without skin. Anyone still alive to confirm this, and if so is it…. Delicious!?
A pic of some of them….
