Thanks Chad, I think you are spot on with the Hydrangea ID. There were two of them, both about 1M high and wide in the middle of the formal garden.

Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
I didn't say hello to nearly as many people as I would have liked. I have had a recurrent sickness which hit me over the last few days, but I was extremely fortunate to have had a morning of respite despite worsening by the evening. My plants, Sinopanax and a T.Hudson Vietnamese collection of Rhaphidophora were safely unpacked and will be planted out in the next day or two.
Was Graham Blunt (Plantbase) at the fair? I was hoping to chat with him but don't think I saw his stall.
Ps- for Andy, I think Lower Kenneggy have a Hydrangea 'Tiara' growing behind the greenhouse. I'll take some photos and ask if Stephen would propagate some

I haven't bought from here, but they have an impressive list of Hydrangea and 'Tiara' seems reasonably priced.
The only purple/maroon leaf Hydrangea I grow is macrophylla 'Eclipse'. It was all the rage a couple of years ago and probably lacks the elegance of 'Tiara' (I do prefer lacecap rather than mopheads) but it doesn't need sun to keep the dark leaf colour all summer and the deep maroon contrasts nicely with other shade lovers.

One day I will get down to Cornwall for this event! If you like the aspera type Hydrangeas and the bronze leaf forms there is a nice one called Hot Chocolate. I'm thinking of getting one to contast with my aspera Gold Rush which I think has the most beautiful foliage.

Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
A very kind friend gave me one but that first winter here killed it  The replacements came from Penberth this time last year. Last winter, one died, I kept one in a pot in the greenhouse and one survived near my Manihot. Not sure it helps much Andy
Lovely to see you and Liz Charlie, and apologies for not saying hello John. You were so busy when I came by I didn’t like to interrupt.
