Hosta Empress Wu

I was just wondering on how everyones Empress Wu was performing. I know quite a few of you bought them a couple of years back when they were the must have plant of the season. I was very lucky to have a bit sent to me by our newest menber Kev Scales. He has been trialing it for 5 odd years and said his gets to around 6 ft tall :shock: Now if I can get 4ft on my heavy clay soil I will be over the moon. So anyone else get those sorts of heights?

Kev tells me that they are snail proof, as that was one of the first things I said to him about my other Hostas getting munched.
Jon, did yours die during your move? I thought they were almost bomb proof

Yes I can say it will top out at about 5/6 ft .... Very hungry lots of pigs poo works really well .... Also the blue in it keep the snails seem to stay away .... However I like to get out with salt and let them fizz while I drink my wine

Not completely snail proof, this is the first year that mine has been nibbled.
It's growing in very dry shade, right next to the trunk of a sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). She's been a bit slow up until now but finally is starting to take off. I'll be mulching with some horse manure over the weekend.

I'd be satisfied with 5/6 inches, nothing at all this year.

The nana has been given bottom heat thanks Kev. I have to say i have never used pigs poo, more of a horse man myself..

I don't think a hosta will ever totally be immune to slugs and snails, but if the rate of growth is such that they have chance to bulk up enough..... I'll have to either try an empress wu, or buy a pig!
