I am trying Tibouchina Grossa this year from seed (although yet to germinate) and am interested in whether it is happy outside and also whether it makes such a fine plant as the T Urvilleana.

Nick Macer had an amazing pot full of flowering Sinningia Tubiflora when I was there in September - it was in a wide flatish pot in sun. I shall see if mine flowers this year.

I will be interested in the results of Tibouchina Grossa if anyone is successful. odd that I haven't seen it in California or Madeira? I have Tibouchina paratropica which without frost would be a small flowered scraggy shrub but with frost behaves as a perennial here

A new package arrived yesterday. It being upside down is my fault, not the carrier's.



From Edrom in Scotland, it is beautifully packed, and I am guessing the packaging also offers it some frost protection while in transit.



Individual pots were well packed too.






I would have had three each of Anemone nemorosa 'Frenzy' and 'Greenfingers', but they only had two of the latter.

One of the 'Frenzy' is moving.



In the open garden we are a few weeks ahead of Scotland.

This is Anemone nemorosa 'Virescens', bulking up nicely in open shaded ground.



It is nice to have something for 'after the snowdrops' in that patch.

We meet them at several plant sales (or should I say "Used to Meet them"!) Nice couple always make us feel we are not mad for driving as far up as the drive about the same distance down.

Strelitzia nicolai and S reginae came yesterday.Also Zantedeschia rehemannia (dark pink form).Calathea crocata to follow.Hope it does come.

Have you got a huge protected growing space? Strelitzia nicolai is huge!

Even in summer I'm not sure I could provide the heat for Calathea crocata. Incidentally although the trade hasn't adopted it, I think it is now Goeppertia crocata.

Strelitzia reginae is hardy and flowers in the tunnel here in a pot; even through The Beast from the East, and a little closer to the coast it seems to be reliable outdoors.

Yes we have a fair bit of room.I am hoping that with root restriction and plenty of controlled release i can keep them manageable and a deep green colour.Its seems to be sold as a house plant.The Calathea (Goeppertia) is a treat as i liked the look of it :) .S reginae and S nicolai wiill be new to me so a little R & D will be interesting.
