Nigel at Hardypalms has some amazing waggies, the best Ive ever seen for sale and really good prices as well, loads of fortuneis at good prices as well if anyone is after one.
I didnt get anything at Vales this time but picked up a few bits from CGF, I must have been in a variegated mood as I bought Acanthus 'whitewater' that Ive not seen before, Agapathus 'silver moon' and another Tibouchina urvilleana all variegated forms.
I also picked up a Rheum palmatum 'red herald' as its quite a few years since I have had one of these in the garden and a Lobelia 'tania' which I need to look up.
Good little trip out and much needed to get the season under way.
Ade how is Nigel stocked for Yucca Rostrata and Linearfolia ?
Im not sure Tony, I did look at loads of Yuccas but we were mainly talking palms so I cant remember, best send him a message either through the Hardypalms site or through an EPS pm.
On the shopping theme! I've just bought a 4 ft busy Eriobotrya Japonica ..couldn't resist!!
Chris had a great specimen at his previous house and I always admired it. It's replacing a troublesome bamboo that has decided to run into my neighbour's garden :oops: . So I'll be muttering and swearing this week trying to oik it out!!! :x

I left a few plants I regret or miss, a couple of the bamboos, 2 tree ferns, a scheffy ( :oops: ), a yucca and the Eriobotrya Japonica. That last one was the only one that was really too big to move. What's worse is it was bigging to fruit, last year it had the first fruits, small but they did get there. So who knows this year, especially as in London we had a very mild winter without much snow or real cold. (my mins were about 2 degrees warmer than usual). I am going to have to get another one I think, they make lovely little trees.
I have a Erio in the garden that was taken from a cutting back when I worked with the tropical plants at LPs They had loads of them there and the staff used to walk round my large greenhouse and eat the bloody fruit ...I also managed to germinate plenty from seeds too. Mine was rather stupidly planted near a Semi arundinaria Bamboo that is slowly creeping up on it. I will have to move it before it gets swamped :roll:
My Eriobotrya started to lean over during the winter. I just looked out of the kitchen window on day and it was leaning over the lawn at about 20 degrees. When I went out and checked it, it was very wobbly, but only in that one direction towards the lawn. I have no idea why. maybe a combination of high winds and wet soil. It's staked now, so hopefully it will settle back in.
