OK, I know this may take a bit of doing but this evergreen came to me from John Lanyon who now lives at Edward Needhams garden, I can remember he said it was an epiphyte (can't spell it and the spell check doesn't know what I am talking about!)
Now its flowering I am hoping the rather distinctive stamens may help.
My original 'Come on; give us a challenge!' was intended rhetorically as if to say 'that one was easy'.
The Erythrina megistophylla was just lucky that I had seen it before [most of the rest of that site I would have had no hope on].
The arrogance in my next post is somewhat embarrassing retrospectively; but I do love a challenge of finding an ID for things. Especially things I don't know.
I have two ways of getting to an ID - I either recognise it, or slog out from the details given. Sometimes I am just glad someone else knows and I can learn from that. Your last post covers most of these.
The 'that looks familiar I'll just check the details' covers;
1.Albuca. Muddled in commerce, I've seen that one grown as A.nelsonii I think, but it could one of several others. And I'm not certain I have the genus right.
2. Polemonium pauciflorum. Knew the plant but had to check the spelling.
5.Cubanola domingensis. Then checked pictures and spelling. Your picture is very 'yellow', but I can't think of an alternative.
The 'I know the genus and I could probably work it out'
3. Salvia. To get much further I would need more information and/or pictures of its habit and leaves. The 'unopened' tube should be characteristic, but it doesn't ring any bells. The 'red' suggests bird pollinated; so for this genus American. Mexican? [If it is hybrid I would give up - there are too many!].
The 'I'll be glad if someone else can name it so I can learn something'
4. An orchid. The very divided lip is off putting. The spots on the bracts suggest it should have spotted leaves. The flowers look a long way apart for a Dactylorhiza. In placing and poise they look more like an Orchis [like mascula]; but not one I know. Outside of the context of this thread I would keep quite and wait for someone who knows more to comment.
