Mini meet at Penjerrick Wednesday 22 April.

Penjerrick is one of the lesser known Fox family gardens in Cornwall. 

Parking is on the grass at the main drive, and may be a bit brave if it hasn't stopped raining by then. 

Meeting at 1400 at the bottom, or garden end, of the main drive. 

Waterproof boots are recommended. 

Rhododendrons should be at their peak. 

I haven't been before.

Used to go often and help rachel with the gate on her open days, was once taken around by Peter Clough and he was very good at explaining all the interesting stuff, the Darwin/Beagle connection is strong and the monkey puzzels are from the original seed brought back as is what looks like a rock at the upper side of the bridge over the road which on closer inspection turns out to be a lump of brain coral from Darwin.
There were parts of the garden pretty hard to get into back then (its been a good few years!) but there were some magnificent old plants

But yes wellies are essential at all times of the year

The date for this is starting to creep up on us. I hope the weather will be kind!

I think it will be a really exciting garden to explore - who's planning to join us?

I'm aware of 6 people who have told me they are coming, but even people with 'personal' invitations have, in the main, not replied at all.

As always, I'll be chuffed if we are only three, but hope to get up to 10 for this one.

I'd particularly welcome anyone who can tell me which Rhododendron I'm looking at!

When I least went (about twenty years ago) the garden felt very peaceful, like it had been put to sleep decades before. Has it changed much?

The garden has certainly fallen asleep - after Goretti the emphasis is unfortunately on "fallen".

Looks like they have some superb plants. That Laureliopsis is very beautiful indeed. When it was first mentioned I thought it might be a garden I went to donkeys years ago which had an enormous collection of bamboo?

Was that Carwinion House Martin?

A National Trust property that still had an original owner in residence until 2013. Then the Trust rented it out and it closed to the public.

Most of the bamboo were removed, and it is now a wedding venue.

Thanks for the pictures John. The only one that jogged a memory is the one of tree ferns adjacent to a pond.
Shame about the loss of trees. A recent walk around the National Trust gardens at Godolphin revealed a similar story. About 15-20% of the mature trees alongside the main drive are down, just to clear the drive itself must have taken a lot of time and labor.
