Minimeet in Devon 06 Feb 2026

Post by Chad »

Higher Cherubeer
1¾ acre country garden with gravelled courtyard and paths, raised beds, alpine house, lawns, herbaceous borders, woodland beds with naturalised cyclamen and snowdrops, kitchen garden with large greenhouse and orchard.

Meet there and buy your own entry ticket.

This is an NGS open day, so we don't need to book as a group.

Cyclamen, snowdrops and Hellebores should be doing their thing.

Those from West Cornwall will probably be car sharing, I'm part of a now full car, and I haven't advertised the trip yet!

Hi Chad,

Having recently attended an excellent talk by Jo Hynes, I'd be keen to join up if possible? Do you know an idea of timings at this stage?

Charlie - enjoy La Palma! I think all of us in the UK are longing for a little sunshine to lift the spirits, so it must be nice to have a trip to the Canaries in the pipeline. Still, we are past the shortest day now so that is always a cheerful thought (apologies to any Southern Hemisphere members!)

Ben,

She opens at 1400 and we will aim to get there for then.

BUT, we are two and half hours away, so who knows when we will actually arrive?

All are welcome, it is a 'public' opening.

Time flies and this is now nearly upon us.

This Friday, Feb 6th meeting there at 1400 when they open.

It is over two hours away from those of us in Penwith, which is a bit far for a short trip, and may explain why 'local' interest has been muted.

So far, I'm aware of four people who are planning on coming, and three others who 'might'.

Anyone else travelling to it?

Hi Chad,

I've been looking forward to this garden visit. Unfortunately I've been struck down with the flu and feeling pretty rough. I can't imagine I'll be feeling well enough to make the trip to join you tomorrow, sorry.

I'm sure the gardens will be looking excellent. Jo gave an very enjoyable talk last Autumn and her garden is somewhere I'd like to visit sometime.

Have a good day. Maybe stick a few photos up if you get a chance?

Thanks for the pictures John, and how clever not to show the torrential rain, just rainbows as the rain receded. Ben, you were missed, but we were grateful you didn't come to spread the virus.

Galanthus.
Has anyone an idea for the name of this one? It wasn't labeled but was striking enough to tempt me back into buying an expensive snowdrop. Does Galanthus 'David Foreman' look like that?

I imagine this must be a mahonia but it seems to have enormous leaves? Anyone catch the label?
