Long time members will realize I must like this garden as I have posted about it before! just done the annual spring plant sale there organised by Chris Pattison, lovely day, sun shone, cold wind though. But step into the old walled gardens and you soon had your coat off. Found a few things I had not remembered pointing the camera at before . If you are on the M5 near Worcester its only just off the motorway and well worth the effort

Any ideas what this is? scandant shrub, bloody big sharp spikes on the stems

This shows why I dont grow Echiums, my garden is also too cold, but trying to grow them under glass just doesn't compare, perhaps I am spoilt by the wonderfull specimens we see down here nearer the coast?

Are pictures numbered 12 and 10 [the first and the last] the same thing?

I think the first one is a Berberis, possibly B.vulgaris or a hybrid there of.

The last picture looks more like B.valdiviana.

An almost legendary rarity until Nick at Panglobal got it into commerce.

I would have to agree that Berberis was what they both look like, but I don't know a lot about the genus. the first one was very long stemmed, 15' + and being grown as a wall shrub. I was taken with the second if I get back later in the year I will look for seed
