I have some rather interesting seedling from last years seeds coming along, several with rather hansom white stripes on the leaves, be interesting to see if they remain into adulthood.

Anyone else got some Clivia pics to share?

Quite what I am going to do with them all I don't know, not quite hardy here, can anyone get away with these outside?

A while ago I was given a mature Clivia miniata and its first flowers (for me) are just emerging................


The downstairs rooms here stay quite cool in the summer, but I now have the fire going in the evenings which seems to have sparked it into life.

Mine are decidedly unhappy (very small to medium sized plants, gifts from friends). I repotted them all in the spring into Clay pots, and about 50:50 JI#3 and horticultural grit, and I have been frugal (or so I think??) with watering through the summer; they've staying in the Tomato house, so out of the weather, and not roastingly hot ...

It may just be that the building works here (still not finished :( ) have so distracted me that they have not been well looked after - next year they can be in the Orangery, which will be better suited for them (and everything else that isn't a Tomato!) than the Tomato house.

Fingers crossed, but any advice you guys have would be appreciated.

They appear to thrive on neglect and don't seem to mind being congested in their pots, and mine are fairly heavily shaded where they are, but I can't say I really give them much thought!

Thanks Charlie. I did pot them up "tight-ish", so hopefully with slightly better care this winter I'll see some improvement next year.

I was under the impression ( I could be wrong ) they are an understory plant and grow best in quite deep shade which may be the problem

Thanks. They've been chucked in the greenhouse this season, so probably had far too much direct light. I'm hoping to give everything more time & care next year without spending so much time destracted by building works going on around me, and plants moved from pillar to post as a consequence :(
