Back home from the land of the orange cows!

Just returned from France, and although we have had a lovely holiday and the bit we were in south of Limoges is peaceful to the point of being almost empty , I have returned and realise I dont think I could garden with their climate!

Have any of you thought of relocating only to realise that maybe the grass is not greener (literally) ?

Yes. My wife and I seriously thought about it 10 or so years ago. Main contenders were Madeira (probably Funchal, possibly Caniço but a south coast town), Tenerife or la Palma - of the three la Palma was especially appealing. The plan was to up sticks for a total move, not a flit to and fro to a second home. Started to look half-seriously at properties. We physically drew up a list of pros and cons for each place compared to home. The idea is nice - still is - but at the time so much of what we did couldn't transpose itself. And home is pretty damned fab anyway - outscored the contenders. Now we are getting on our requirements have changed and there is still an outside chance we might rest our bones somewhere less challenging like Lanzarote. It would be hard to leave the garden but, equally, it is getting harder to keep on top of it, especially after my recent health issues.

I would've moved abroad in a heartbeat. The wife is very family orientated so wouldn't have moved away from them...but moans about being cold :roll:

Thats one of the problems - more warmth in winter frequently means more heat in summer as well! but I came to realise that I was not going to be happy anywhere that I wasnt fluent in the language , but like Paul I like where I am and I certainly wouldn't want to start over!
