I saw some nice examples of this tender shrub at Cross Common Nursery today. The plant has the common name of 'Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow'.
I've read that they can withstand -5C but wondered if anyone had some first hand experience growing them? Is it one to try against a sunny (frost free) wall perhaps?

Fraid not Rob, see them when on holiday but never thought to try them, I would definitely be too cold here but you may well be OK

I 'acquired' a couple of cuttings whilst on holiday a couple of years ago. Rooted easily, grew strongly but carked it when I whispered frost

Thank you both for your replies. I think I'll try them if I can find a frost free space that suits. Maybe another plant that would benefit from insurance cuttings each winter!

Re: Brunfelsia pauciflora
What a coincidence! I just planted one that was gifted to me this spring (it's way over to the right - I just finished removing all the dokudami and equisetum roots from this planter, a huge project if you're familiar with these horrible weeds - and planted it along with all my selloums, which have been languishing in a shady area with a lot of dog trampling, more plants to come!).
Anyway I love this shrub and its interesting blooms. We had a large one in our previous house that was in partial shade and withstood -4C with freezing temperatures lasting over 48 hours with no problem. I think as long as you’re certain-5 is the worst it will see, and not very often, it should be fine!
