Garden Limbo

Post by Fukuoka Scott »

Hello, and thank you to whoever created this forum. Very nice to see some familiar faces, although it was a little hard to sign up!

I may have mentioned before GOTE went bye bye that I was moving. Have now been out in the exurbs for about 18 months, and while we have a much bigger yard now the dogs like, it's also a lot hotter, colder, drier and more exposed to wind. I had to leave behind some plants in town, and others have struggled in the harsher climate. Worst of all, my wife's German shepherd puppy apparently dug up and destroyed my asplenium antiquum!

Anyway, I'm probably mostly going to have to settle for pretty pedestrian plants from now on but am looking forward to seeing everyone else's garden pics! Here's my latest planting, a rescued Rhapis humilis, stuck in a planter that I still need to get weeded.

What a cutie! Yeah they're very good dogs. Ours is about 18 months old. Full size but still very rambunctious. We have moles in the yard so he sometimes digs big holes trying to catch them. Thanks???

I love the German Shepherd. It is such a handsome dog. A dear friend of mine who has written a book and articles on them and judged them all over the world is or was - and may still be - the only British judge invited to judge in Germany, such is the depth of his expertise. He has translated in the past many of the documents relating to the top German dogs and we have had some interesting discussions on the best translations for some of the more technical vocabulary and terminology. Was very tempted myself recently by a lovely dog which became available but we already have two rescue dogs who are a bit stuck in their ways.
I made the mistake once of telling him that I liked the white or albino Shepherds and he looked at me in disgust, stamped his foot, exclaiming the word "Fehlerhaft!" Never again.
