Scilly Isles Aeoniums

Post by AndyC »

Every where you go on St Mary's and Tresco (and probably the other islands too) you see green Aeoniums growing out of stone walls.
I brought a bit home with me from our visit last September and since then I have been trying to work out what species it is.
Where it appears online as pictures or for sale it is either name 'Green Aeonium' or just 'Aeonium'. Has it been on the islands for so long that people have forgotten its origins and species name or can someone put a name to it.?

My understanding, and this isn't an area I have studied so I'm very open to correction, is that it is a hybrid swarm centred on A.cuneatum and arboreum.

The Echium on Tresco are all hybrid now too, unless there is a fresh planting from pure seed.

Thanks Chad, that would make sence just on their appearance alone,

I think it looks a bit more like the former rather than the latter.
