Euplagia quadripunctaria and friends

Until recently the Jersey Tiger Moth was quite scarce on mainland Britain and is still mainly found in the south west of the country.
Not one I had ever seen before
How many of you looking in thought this was a plant name you hadn't come across before? :)

Bizarrely, I knew this as we had one in our garden for the first time this year as well and I had also looked it up. Those stripey markings are quite striking, and then the red underwings when it flies even more so!

Euplagia means 'good diagonals', I thought it might be an old name for Christia obcordata.
It wasn't!

A couple of new visitors to the garden in recent days
Smerinthus ocellata
you can only see its 'eyes' when it opens out it's wings
Lithosia quadra
Still not seeing many butterflies in the garden :(
