Wet wet wet!

Post by charlie »

and not the pop group! Its exceptionally soggy at present and I am running out of legitimate hide inside jobs, gave my new waterproofs plus waders a test run cleaning the tunnel covers, they at least are best cleaned in the rain as it softens the algae and dirt but I am struggling to see any other positives at the moment :(

It has been a wet October here after a desperately dry summer. But when I say 'wet' I mean we have had 80mm of rain. The average for October, historically our wettest month, is 60mm.

We average 115mm for October and think we had that much in the last week!

Yesterday we had a few dry hours but now its back to rain for the next 3 days - should have stayed on Madeira! (although come to think of it they were expecting their rainy season to start as well!)

.... and windy!
The Ricinus communis 'Gibsoniii' and 'Znzibarensis' had reached 8ft in height but the plant supports I'd staked them with weren't up to the job of standing against the 'Westerlies' last night. Now chopped up and on the compost heap.
I shouldn't complain as in previous years and in my old garden they would have long been frosted (and on the compost heap).
