Until recently the Jersey Tiger Moth was quite scarce on mainland Britain and is still mainly found in the south west of the country.

Bizarrely, I knew this as we had one in our garden for the first time this year as well and I had also looked it up. Those stripey markings are quite striking, and then the red underwings when it flies even more so!

Euplagia means 'good diagonals', I thought it might be an old name for Christia obcordata.
