Beauty in the morning.

Post by JohnJearrard »

Chad has flowered the wonderful Radermachera sinica, opening late at night and shedding flowers the next morning. I just caught it this morning, a few pictures trying to keep the camera from steaming up. Went away for a cup of coffee to let the camera warm up and when I got back the flower had fallen. Hey ho.

Most people would have a biscotti with their coffee. But then, I suppose, you aren't most people.

I’ve seen images on the net of them in flower as quite small plants. Anyhow, I’m going to get one because I was unaware that the 18 inch high plant you can buy develops into such a handsome and lush looking beauty.

The so called Bonsai Form may flower smaller.

Note that it has a yellow throat to the bloom, and appears to have the whole panicle open at once.

I think it is a hybrid, Radermachera currently has 17 species.

There is a good chance the Bonsai Form has flowers that last beyond morning coffee.

It is a spectacular foliage plant in the tunnel, the flowers were unexpected and impressed John enough to get him over here as a 'special' trip all the way from the other side of the hill.

Don’t know if this link will work as a) I’m crap at tech and b) I’m trying to do it on my Kindle not my laptop.

If it works, this is yet another plant which those lucky enough to be able to afford to live in London can grow outside!

Good read Martin, thanks for the link.

It does seem that summer heat is more limiting than winter cold in our ranges.
