Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
Final nudge of this thread.
This Sunday is the day.
I'm not going this year, so I wish everyone well, both selleres and buyers.
I hope a lot of interesting plants change hands.

Liz and I are already planning what to take! We do this for every plant sale but never seem to guess right!

I just wanted to wish the best to sellers and buyers for tomorrow: that the former find the latter and that the latter find the most amazing plants.

Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
It was a busy fair again. Not sure what time the flood gates were opened but we arrived only about 10 minutes after the offocial opening time and some people were already heading back to the cars with arms full of purchases.
We came away with a Metapanax delavayi hybrid and an Oreopanax xalapensis from Mark Fillan, a Lobelia montana and Paeonia delavayi from Crug plus a few other bits and bobs.
Some of the most intesting plants weren't for sale, they were spotted during our walk around the gardens.
This one looks like some form of Hydrangea macrophylla but with lovely dark foliage and flower petals a more interesting shape than usual, can you put a name to it?

We came across this lovely succulent in the conservatory, think it is Cistanthe grandiflora?

It was a grand day out.

I 'm sorry we missed saying 'Hello' Charlie, everytime we came near to your tables both you and Liz were deep in conversation with punters.
Hope you went home with an empty van. John had to make three trips down to Tregrahan with plants on Saturday, hope he made it home in one.

The Johns nearly made it back in one go, we brought some trays and chairs back here for him to collect as we had plenty of space going home!

Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
Tom has an internationally important collection of wild seedling introductions of Hydrangea species and for a non expert like me ID'ing them is pointless.
That said, your plant has similarities to Hydrangea serrata 'Tiara', which seldom grows more than 1M tall and the leaves colour in full sun.
I agree with your Cistanthe grandiflora ID, Penberth Plants usually have it for sale at The Tregrehan sale.
Chad
ps.
Tregrehan were selling 'Tiara' at the sale in 2023.

Re: Tregrehan Rare Plant Fair.
Cistanthe isn't hardy with me, alas - it is a gorgeous thing and I suspect only for the very mildest of gardens.
It was a great day by all accounts, plants and craic. Sorry to have missed it.
