PUSHING THE BORDERS

Anyone else had their nest boxes stolen by these little chaps?

No nest boxes but that could be a good thing as bee stings are bad news for me!

They don't seem very aggressive but both occupied boxes are well up out of the way

To be fair bees aren't agressive. I've only been stung twice - the first time was when I put a shoe on (when I found out that I needed an epi-pen) and the second time I lay down on top of one when to grab something from under the car (when I discovered that I hadn't seen my epi-pen in years).

That's a very unusual nest box hole Charlie what did you make it with a blunt drill or a red hot poker. :lol:

:) The Bees seem to have made the hole smaller with black stuff, and there are always a couple of bees just inside guarding the entrance like night club bouncers!

I haven't noticed any tree bees in our garden but we did have some 'Patio Furniture' bees for a while. Before the hot dry spell the outdoor table was occupied by some small bees for a few weeks. The hole in the tubular steel of the table is at most 5mm across and it was amazing to see the bees squeeze themselves into the space. I guess the hot weather didn't make the nest very comfortable as they are not around any more.

Fascinating creatures, bees. We're having a lot of them in our garden as well this Summer, which made me happy. As long as they don't sting me, we're cool. lol

We used to have a honey bee colony in the eves of the roof, been there over 100 years apparently but had to be evicted two years ago to allow for essential roof and gutter repairs so I am relieved at see so many bees of many different sorts this year. This is the first year we have seen these non native tree bees though.
