New greenhouse

Post by JonK »

Following on from Charlie's post about his greenhouses and his new project, I've finally got round to sorting out a new greenhouse. Putting up with snow, cold and biting east winds, its been a test of my endurance but I've just about got there ready for the new growing season :D

I've gone for a Rhino greenhouse measuring 16ft x 8ft with toughened glass. I've paid a bit more than I was going to do but I wanted a decent one which was going to last. Its a fair size but I know it will soon be filled to bursting point

Very nice. What are you going to fill it with?

Greenhouses do seem to be reverse tardises, they seem huge until you out your plants in and work out you need twice the space

Tony - I'm not going to be heating it. My tender stuff has been in the garage overwinter in a heated 'tent' with lights. I will do the same next winter.

ChrisG - a mixture of things really. I've used brickweave for the base so everything will be in pots so it will mainly be used for propagating and bringing stuff on. Yesterday I was splitting my gingers which are still all in pots from when I moved, H. 'Stephen' has gone from 2 to 8 pots, H. 'Sorung' 2 to 10 pots so at that rate I soon won't be able to get in the door  Hopefully once some more beds are dug I can get them into the ground but at the rate I'm going it will probably be next year  I've got to sort a heated bench out to help with propagation but that may have to wait. I put an electric supply in when I done the base so thats all ready to go.

Full

the neighbour popped round the other day and he reckoned it was like a jungle in there. There's a lot of stuff in there at the moment which will be planted out once I can get the garden sorted a bit more like lots of gingers what were split in the spring and are now bulking up nicely.

The builders are round at the moment so hopefully once that is done, I can start thinking seriously about the garden. Lots of ideas are in my head ready for implementation in the garden.
