Plant id's.

Post by JohnJearrard »

A couple of things I have seen in the last few weeks that I can't put a name on.
Any help would be very welcome.

First, this variegated tree at the University of Reading. I managed to convince myself it was a Zelkova of some kind
but looking back at the pictures now I think that is just pony poo.

Young plant, growing on a 2m standard trunk. That's about the only intelligent thing I can think to add. It had leaves and stuff.

The second plant was growing at Hidcote. It must be a bulb of some sort, I just don't recognise it. Maybe it's one of those Scilla that aren't Scilla any more.

And finally a purple leaved thing also growing at Hidcote. I was convinced it was an Impatiens and the only one I have seen like it was Impatiens balansae but I'm thrashing around in the dark really.

Anybody got any ideas?

That second one is driving me nuts, I know I have seen it but I just can't find the name in my brain!

Thanks for that Mark, one down two to go...

...and it will come to you, Charlie. I am confident. You will shout it out triumphantly in the middle of the night. Now that really is nuts. :D
