We had the first substantial rain for a long time last night, about half an inch. The weeds will really get going now but it has made everything look fresh.

whereabouts are you? You cannot be too far away but your garden looks a bit more advanced than mine. Eucomis pole evansii is only just sending up the flowers and Clerodendron bungei is only 2 foot high this year. No canna flowers just yet, and Kirengoshima ( love yours by the way ) is in the greenhouse as it didn't it didn't want to come up this year! I have very sandy soil though, maybe this has something to do with it.

Hi tony, I'm about 13 miles north west of Basingstoke on top of a hill, but sheltered with very free draining soil.
The Clerodendron are flowering on old stems at about 6-8ft tall. I get suckers coming up here and there but I tend to remove these in an attempt to keep the clump in its original planting position just west of an even taller beech hedge.
Up until last year I thought all Eucomis were too tender to leave permanently in the ground but having learnt the error of my ways and leaving them in the ground over the last winter I find that they have performed much better this year.

Looks great Andy, we've barely had a drop of the juice here though :(

Agree looks great. We had our first serious rain of the entire summer today. Not that it makes much difference to my plants, but I'm sure the weeds will love it as you said.
