I have just read the blog and have no idea how they can be so stoic about it all. I wish them all the luck in the world in the coming battles with the insurers.

I think if the fire had started in their garden that battle would have been worse as I am not sure plants are covered although sheds and fences probably are, but because it came from a neighbours garden they can make a claim against them and the neighbours insurers should then pay out on third party liability. They are fortunate in having very detailed photo evidence of before and after. Its just not something you tend to spare a thought for, fire in the garden - goodness knows what the neighbours had in their garden to get a fire going that well

The dog dug up a 2m by 1m hole in the middle of one of my borders recently, probably £100 worth of plants destroyed and an afternoon wasted putting it right. I was so pissed off at the time. This puts that incident competely into perspective and one can only imagine how devastated they must be. You can replace the plants and buildings I suppose but you cannot replace the time it will take to grow back as it was before,notwithstanding the treasures which will be impossible to procure.

True enough, but from my experience of insurers at work the negotiations will still be a battle.

Yes, I read about this on their blog a few days ago, such awful destruction.
As you say Charlie, in the list of things you thing that could go wrong in the garden a massive fire isn't one of them.
I don't know how I'd react if I was in their position, if I'd see it as a new opportunity or just throw in the trowel for a few years.
