Some people have all the luck..................

................and for once it was me!

I moved house last year and space issues in the autumn meant that a few tough choices had to be made. Brugmansia sanguinea was a plant that I had long admired and the crap summer last year resulted in great success at the first attempt! So I "gave it away" last autumn, but it never got collected so it sat there all winter fully exposed. I finally got around to that part of the garden a few days ago (riddled with Japanese anenomes) and when I went to chuck it in the compost I saw this.....................

This is what the whole thing looks like...................

Not only that, but here is the larger of the two Cantua buxifolia that I had. It was placed under shelter outdoors for the winter and it survived!

The cutting in the cold greenhouse died.

It's great when things you think you lost come back from the root. I found my brugs would do it for a couple of years but it took too much out of them and they got more feeble every year.

Nice one. Reminds me of my Butia eriospatha that was assumed dead after a bad winter, chucked by the compost heap, started to produce a new spear so was repotted and spend two years in the polytunnel recovering. It is now planted out again ready for next winters bashing.

I thought throwing things onto the compost heap to rejuvenate them was a recognized horticultural technique! :)

By far the easiest way to germinate Honey Mangos!
