PUSHING THE BORDERS

Was in the local garden centre today looking for some annual climbers for an obelisk in a client's garden when I saw they had Thungergia gregorii.

I haven't actually seen one before and was surprised how large the flowers are, so I just had to buy one. Now I am asking what's the best way to look after it, is there any chance of keeping it for next year, etc, etc.

Is that the bright Orange flowered one? or the pale lilac? The orange one is tender if memory serves. They had a huge one at Cotswold wildlife park in the glasshouse and I aske Tim if it would survive outside and he said probably not. Squires were selling the orange one last year and I was tempted to buy it. I think it was around £12.

Looks like I will be treating it like an annual then, but they were in with all the climbing bedding for under £3 so I haven't really lost anything.

Might be worth trying a few late season cuttings, they are very easy and could be overwintered on a windowsill, not sure if it would set viable seed in the UK but its quick from seed as well

What would be the best way to go about this? T'other half has one but we've always treated them as an annual. I intend cutting it back and putting it in the cool spare room this year (if that's not a waste of time?), so there'll be plenty of material.
