peach rootstocks

We had two peaches in one of our polytunnels, I am embarrassed to say they have suffered because of something I did to them! Following a pretty bad scale and mealybug season I decided the organic vegetable oil I had been using as an emulsion sprayed in winter wasnt really up to the job so I went over the trees by hand using the stuff neat and using a tooth brush, took hours but did seem to get rid of the scale - however both trees failed to come into leaf in the spring and had clearly died! later that year the stocks started throwing up shoots one looks more like a plum than peach not sure what they have used? I have grafted on some bits from sons peach so should be able to regrow that one in time, the second peach however seems to have been grafted onto a peach seedling question is is it a waste of time waiting to see what fruit if any this tree produces?
