PUSHING THE BORDERS

I've grown V.tinus for years as a back of the boarder, hide the fence, stalwart and it has always done well in my poor soil so I've more recently tried some others. V.cinnamomifolium has also done well, it is like a V.davidii on steroids.

I also have a V.odoratissimum but I've planted that in too much shade so it has gone gangly and needs moving.
Any other evergreen Viburnum you would recommend?

Can't help you Andy I am afraid, whilst I like the genus it is unfortunately one of the most susceptible group of plants with regard to Phytophthora ramorum so we made a decision to remove all the Viburnum least we encourage the fungus (we are about 1 Mile from the epicenter of the original out break)

Viburnum × burkwoodii has amazing scent in spring. It has a fairly lax growing habit, but can be utilised as a frame for flowering climbers during the summer. It's pretty tough and just needs formative pruning to keep it looking at it's best.

Thanks for the suggestion Darran. I had considered Vibernum x burkwoodii as I grow V. carlesii (one of it's parents) from which I guess burkwoodii gets its lovely scent but I've been put off by its description of being semi-evergreen. What does that mean? Does it loose all of its leaves in some winters or some of its leaves every winter?
