PUSHING THE BORDERS

Buddleja madagascariensis is my favourite Buddleja but far too tender for here. They grow it in the enclosed passageway at OBG.

How do you get yours to flower well Keith? here I get 1 flower per year usually in the autumn and it never sets seed, plant is big and happy, do you give lots of light/sun. Puzzled as these were flowering in spring on the Canaries

I've had half a dozen blooms so far but there are loads to come. It is outdoors still in a frost free spot up against the house (apart from two nights in the greenhouse where the frost was quite deep) which is shady.
I treat it the same as I treat Lachenalia - during it's summer dormancy it gets shoved in the greenhouse for a dry summer bake then put outdoors in the sun around late August. It used to work a treat for Ferraria too (frost doesn't work for Ferraria though!).

The hardiest red is Passiflora caerulea-racemosa, but you could have anything! as in the right place (dry roots in winter) many will survive losing their top growth and still flower.

That is the right colour Charlie, and it would have to have been a hardy variety as Shropshire is not the warmest county in the UK, although it was growing against a wall. I will try to find another. Many thanks

It is! I have to be quite strict with myself with passiflora, Myles Irvine used to send me all his new raisings to try, I ended up with rather a lot, most of which didn't like the UK climate

These are catching the eye simply because they are still blooming despite the garden having seen a few frosts already;
