Before moving to Cornwall I'd been down here on holiday many times over the years but never before in January. It has been a very pleasant surprise to see plants in flower in the garden and round about Falmouth. Today I snapped this Agave salmiana on the Cliff road the flower spike has shot up 6-8ft within a few days.
Also spotted Melianthus major and Impatiens tinctoria in flower in a town garden
I guess this year may well be an exception rather than the rule but one can but hope.

I would say for Falmouth it is fairly normal - lucky you!

For the first time in a couple of weeks yesterday we could stand upright in the garden without the wind blowing us over so I had a quick wander around with the camera, all the usual suspects I am afraid but at least its starting to feel like spring!

Not sure what species? it came here as a variegated Pieris but the variegated bit got killed one winter and this appeared from the base.

Given half a chance these try and take over and we have to remove wheelbarrow fulls every year to try and stay on top, trouble is I can never bring myself to rip them out before I see the flowers so no doubt they always manage to drop their seed! but the scent walking past is rather lovely.

Having been around with the camera I will now need to spend the day today dealing with all the weed outbreaks and debris clearing spotted!!

Two plants I love are the osmanthus, delicate perfume and one of the first plants I took cuttings from and, bear in mind I loathe, hate and detest yellow flowers, lesser celandine. It's the fresh green of the leaves that I like. Shame I can't get it established

Yeah, thanks Charlie. If you could just make sure it doesn't flower that'll be grand!
I've tried numerous times but alas the moisture content of my porous soil seems to not be conducive with this type of plant. I've also tried in pots .....it didn't end well :cry:

This dark flowered form of Holboellia coriacea is a really good free flowering form and the scent is exceptional

Tough enough to survive out in the garden but sadly never had any flowers so I gave up!

I thought I would thrill you with a picture of Montanoa bipinnatifida in flower. Not what you sere expecting?, nor I.
I took a few cuttings back end of last year of which most died quite quickly but this one refused to die or put down any roots. It seems that it was intent on flowering before it finally pegs out.
I've had success before with cuttings from this plant but taken much earlier in the season, will try again when the parent produces more material.
