Whilst on the subject of conifer cuttings, my Wollemi pine has a branch at the base about 2 ft long. It currently offers nothing to the shape of the main tree and, whilst I do not wish to just hack it off, I also don’t really need it there. Has anyone tried these from cuttings? I understand from seeds produced on those plants of the members of the former GOTE forum that the seeds are generally unsuccessful. But what about cuttings?

I also got a Henkelii from Trevena Cross and Desert to Jungle had some in a month or so ago.

Wollemia are done commercially from softwood apical cuttings.

Horizontal growth, though it roots fine, tends to carry on growing horizontally.

There is proper word for that that I can't remember: anybody?

"PROPAGATION – Podocarpus roots easily from cuttings. The best method seems to be simply to place softwood (preferably new growth) cuttings in water until roots form, then transplanting them into bonsai soil. Hardwood cuttings require the use of rooting hormone and bottom heat. Although it is possible to grow Podocarpus from seed, seeds can be hard to obtain."
As an aside Schefflera cuttings seem best if placed straightaway into moist pure sand
