How well do the coloured leaf forms do in comparrison to their plain leaved cousins?

Mark would be the best person to answer that really Charlie, as I understand they're a little slower and need to be planted in ericaceous compost to help keep the variegation. Give me a while and I'll let you know how my Ae Ae is going :lol:

I have found them pretty much all to be slower growing than the plain green ones Charlie. They still get a move on but don't seem to put out new leaves as quick..there also slower to pup ( well the ones I have had were) and getting a variegated pup off them is pretty rare too. My Ae ae pupped pretty well before flowering with all the pups being variegated but I have only had one vareigated Basjoo pup anda couple of Raja puris. They don't throw up variegated leaves from the off ( except Ae ae and Raja puri) they come out plain green and take colour as they get a few days older. I still have a soft spot for them but I doubt I would buy any more now.

I am pretty rubbish at grow nanas, but they do look good in summer, I may be tempted to just buy the pretty leaf sorts as annuals if I see them cheap enough, I have always thought they look pretty good near water as seen here at a Cornish garden
