Roldana petasitis blooms.

Post by Stan510 »

Blooms virtually to the day every year. Easy grow I've let become more than usual.

I can only manage it under glass here but it is absolutely fabulous along the Levadas of Madeira in the spring

There are a few half decent specimens around town here but nothing compared with those beauties in the posts from Stan and Charlie.
Mine is alive and in flower but after a few winter storms and a couple of cold clear nights, not worthy of a picture in this company.

Stan, do you ever see Roldana oaxacana around the Bay area? . I have one here that unfortunately looks just as tatty as it's cousin. It has very weird flowers that don't appear to have any petals.

Nomenclature note.

I think Roldana oaxacana is the least bad name for the red felted one.

Stan may know it as 'cristobalensis' at either species or subspecies level.

No Andy. Even though they can thrive it's still only a plant of the local botanical garden sales. Never have seen another in a garden.
